David Brent

David Lawrence Brent, 84, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, June 25, 2026. Born in Zanesville on November 30, 1941, David was the son of the late Paul H. Brent and Beulah Brent and the grandson of the late Herbert and Goldie Norris.
David dedicated 29 years of service to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) in Columbus, where he worked in aerial engineering as a draftsman. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a man of unwavering faith.
His church was the center of his life, and he found great joy in serving the Lord. Blessed with a beautiful singing voice, David loved singing God’s praises and faithfully served in many roles throughout the years. One of his greatest joys was helping build the Church of God and Saints of Christ. Outside of church, David loved spending time on the family farm, especially with his horses, and he always dreamed of building a home on the hill overlooking the property.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 60 years, Doris Ann Brent; his “number one son,” David Matthew Brent; and his “number one daughter,” Leah Marie Brent, as he affectionately called them. He is also survived by his brother, Paul L. Brent; nephews, Paul S. Brent, Levi D. Brent, August Brent, and Josh Brent; niece, Becky Black of Indiana; sisters-in-law, Velma Hill of McConnelsville, Stella Mayle of Columbus, Ella (Ray) Mayle of Canton, Wanda (Jerry) Norris of Zanesville, Janet (Levi) Brent of Zanesville, Sue Flowers of Stewart, Sherry (Richard) Morgan of Fort Mill, South Carolina, and Deborah Flowers of Stewart; stepbrothers, Larry Norris and Greg Norris, both of Zanesville; stepsisters, Brenda Newman, Victoria Norris, Beverly Norris, Kathy Coleman, Janice Crenshaw, and Stephanie Norris; brother-in-law, Allen (Joyce) Flowers of Glouster; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who offered prayers, phone calls, cards, flowers, kindness, and transportation to and from hospital visits. Your encouragement, compassion, and support during this difficult time will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
Family and friends may call on July 2, 2026, from 10am until 11am, at Church of God & Saints-Christ in Zanesville, where funeral services will begin at 11am. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
