Dawson Davis

Dawson Durahan Davis, 76 of Cincinnati, formerly of Zanesville, died 7:24 PM, Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the University Of Cincinnati Hospital, following a short illness. He was born Sunday, November 2, 1947, in Zanesville, the son of George Howard Davis and Barbara Jane (Kreps) Davis. He married Teresa R. (Miller) Davis on Friday, June 19, 1981. Dawson was a member of St. Veronica Catholic Church in Cincinnati and St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Zanesville.
Dawson was a 1965 graduate of Bishop Rosecrans High School, and served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy. During his military service he was assigned to the USS Charles H. Roan. Following his release from active duty, Dawson served in the Naval Reserves.
Dawson retired as a Post Master with the United States Postal Service following over 35 years of service. Dawson was a member of the American Legion Post 29, Eagles Aerie 302, Knights of Columbus Council 2123 in Cincinnati, and Zanesville Knights of Columbus, Council 505, where he served as past Grand Knight. He also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening.
Dawson is survived by his wife of the home: Teresa R. Davis; one son: Nicholas (Danielle) Davis of Cincinnati; two granddaughters: Genevieve and Emilia Rose; one son-in-law, Matt Stewart of Columbus; two brothers: Daniel (Sheila) Davis of Naples, FL, and Dwight Davis of Zanesville, and one sister: Dorothy (Gordon) Passwaters of Zanesville; three sisters-in-law: Barb (Bill) Sargent of Melbourne, FL, Carrie (Tom) Boor of Savanah, GA, and Judy Davis of Zanesville; four brothers-in-law: Jack (Patty) Miller of Crystal Springs, FL, Chris (Kathy) Miller of Hamilton, Pete (Joellen) Miller of Tarpon Springs, FL, and Dennis (Mary) Miller of Tarpon Springs, FL; numerous nieces and nephews, and friends, Smitty and Doby.
In addition to his parents, Dawson was preceded in death by his daughter, Meghan G. Davis-Stewart, and one brother, Dallas Davis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 13, 2024, at St. Veronica Catholic Church, 4473 Mount Carmel Tabasco Road, Cincinnati, with Fr. P. Del. Staigers as celebrant. A graveside committal service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, January 15, 2024, in Mount Olive Cemetery, Zanesville, with Fr. Stephen Ondrey officiating. The United States Navy, VFW Post 1058 and American Legion Post 29 will conduct full military honors.
