ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zanesville Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce welcomed a new daycare facility into the community that specializes in addressing behavioral issues before they become public school problems.

The Purple Elephant Learning Center Preschool and Pre-K Teacher Jamie Block explained what sets their childcare services apart from other programs throughout Zanesville.

“We offer smaller class sizes to help children that have learning disabilities,” Block said. “So we are able to work with them one-on-one in an environment. We also partner up with a program called Quality Moments and they come in and work with our children one-on-one about their feelings.”

Many children have difficulty handling their emotions, which often dominate their mindset and affect behavior. Kindergarten classes across the state are reporting an increased number of students demonstrating behavioral issues.

“We are finding more and more schools are having children with learning disabilities that need a lot of one-on-one attention. Some are nonverbal and they just need that quality one-on-one attention and a smaller classroom environment that is a better learning atmosphere for them to be able to learn in,” Block said.

The Purple Elephant Learning Center is open 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located at the intersection of Sharon Avenue and Marietta Street.
