Debra Nye Bids Farewell After 45 Years of Service

ZANESVILLE, OH – After 45 years of hard work, and 15 of those as Muskingum County auditor, Debra Nye is officially saying goodbye.

Friends, colleagues and fellow officials gathered at the Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center to celebrate Debra’s retirement with a special luncheon. From the courthouse to the community, those who know Debbie say she’s been a steady presence.

“I’ve been a personal friend of Debbie’s before I became a commissioner. I haven’t been there as long as her, I’ve been there a little over 10 years. But her organization and her leadership has helped us. We have a great team at the county, and we all worked really well together,” Muskingum County Commissioner Cindy Cameron said.

“I think I’m going to miss working with the elected officials. I have a thing for spreadsheets, everybody laughs. If they want a spread sheet, they come to me. Just missing that comradery with other elected officials, the staff, and just making decisions every day,” Debra Nye said.

Now, Nye is swapping out spreadsheets for suitcases, with plans to travel and soak up some well-earned rest after a lifetime of service.

“We’re going to rest and relax for a little while. I think next year, my husband and I are going to take a trip on Amtrak across the United States and view all the places that a car can’t go to. So, we’re looking forward to that,” Nye said.

As Nye heads into retirement, the Muskingum County Auditors Chief Deputy, Tina Huebner will be stepping into the role.
