Dedication Ceremony of John and Annie Glenn Museum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Dedication ceremony of a local historic site took place Sunday afternoon.

The John and Annie Glenn Museum in New Concord was dedicated as a site on the National Register of Historic Places. The Museum is the boyhood home of the American astronaut and former U.S. Senator. It is a site where everyone can experience history, learn about the Great Depression and the Home Front during World War II.

“So this National recognition shows that this is the place most closely associated with John Glenn, and also shows his significance in our Nation’s history,” said Operations Director, Debbie Allender.

The dedication ceremony included speeches about the Ohio History Connection, the National Register, unveiling of the plaque, and a special memories dedication from the Glenns’ daughter, Lyn Glenn.

“I never imagined that that my grandparent’s home would be honored like this. But it also, as I see it, as an honor not just for Grandpa and Grandma, but New Concord. Because this house was a part of this community, and the community is what shaped Dad. So, it is the house that is being acknowledged, but it also is the community of New Concord,” said Glenn.

The museum has also been designated an Ohio historic site and is on the National Park Service’s Register of Historic Places.
