ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The holiday weekend is still going strong for hunters today. The White-Tailed Deer-Gun Season kicked off this morning with hunters going out for the game.

Hunters across Ohio took the day off to participate in opening day for deer-gun hunting. Each hunter is allowed to kill 3 deer — two does, and one buck — although the total number does vary by county. Once a deer is killed, the hunter has to check the deer in and get it tagged.

“So far today there’s been about 8 people check-in deer and the rest have been coming in since yesterday buying their hunting license and their tags for today because today is the first day of gun season,” said Kathy McCann, owner of Dillon Falls Store, a tagging and licensing location.

The hunter can then take the deer home and use the meat. If a hunter is in a giving mood there are places where they can donate the deer to help feed others.

“All you do is take it to like Phillips Meat Processing or another deer processing place and tell them that you’re donating it to Farmers Feeding the Hungry and they’ll pay for the processing of that deer and it’ll feed families here in our county that need food,” said McCann.

Hunters have until December 3rd to hunt their game. They will have another opportunity to hunt December 16th and 17th.
