Delbert Benjamin Kirkbride, 90, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday December 14, 2024. He was born on November 9, 1934 in Sarahsville, Ohio, a son of the late James and Frances (White) Kirkbride. Ben was a graduate of Sarahsville High School and went on to be a diesel mechanic at Hartman’s and for many years at Putnam Transfer where he retired from. Ben loved playing euchre anywhere, especially at the American Legion. He enjoyed traveling, gardening with his wife, having coffee at the fairgrounds with the guys, and giving treats to all the family pets as well as the deer, squirrels, and birds. You might have seen him riding up and down the road on his scooter or in his golf cart. Ben absolutely loved going to the Dairy Queen, especially with his grandson Jacob, who everyone knew was his favorite. He is survived by his loving wife Nellie Rosaline (Dunwoody) Kirkbride of 70 years, whom he married on November 27, 1954. Two sons Mike (Cindy) Kirkbride and Ray Kirkbride and bonus daughter Gayle Kirkbride. His three grandchildren Angie (Jerry) Smith, Keely Kirkbride, and Jacob (Alexis) Kirkbride. Four great-grandchildren Daylin, Dystney, Hayden, and Lucy. Siblings June Funk of Pleasant City, Evelyn Ball of Marietta, Cheryl (Gary) Funk of Tennessee, Cindy (Junior) Anderson of Zanesville, and Patsy (Jimmy) Eschman of Cumberland. Sister-in-law Louise Kirkbride and brother-in-law Charles Ball of Sarahsville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Eric, his other favorite, a special great-granddaughter Morgan, two sisters Sandra Ball and Rita Estep, a brother Ray Kirkbride, brothers-in-law Oscar Estep and Kenny Funk. Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday December 18, 2024 at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday December 19, 2024 with Rev. Jim Childers officiating. Burial will be held in Wesley Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of God 1930 Newark Road Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
