Denny’s Offers Free Meal for Veterans

One Zanesville restaurant passed out hundreds of free meals to area Veterans Wednesday.

Denny’s all across America invited active, inactive, and retired military personnel to stop by for a free “Build Your Own Grand Slam” Wednesday from 5 a.m. until noon in honor of Veterans Day. Denny’s franchisee Kevin Coveney told us it was a huge success.

“It’s really a pleasant day,” Coveney said. “You know in our dinning rooms it’s pretty amazing because, you’ll see groups of veterans from different age groups sitting together because, they just join each other because of the space constraints that we have. So it’s really a great moment in our dinning rooms.”

We also spoke to Norman Wheeler, a wounded Vietnam Veteran, and he said that he celebrated Veterans Day with his friends and loved ones.

“I’ve seen nothing but warmth, caring embracement. This is an awesome country. This is an awesome area. Guernsey County, Muskingum County, Noble County; I can’t think of a better place to be at than these places at this particular time in my life,” said Wheeler.

Denny’s plans to host the free meal for Veteran’s Day for many years to come.
