DeWine Tours Heath Research Facility
The Licking County Port Authority is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
To do so, they invited Attorney General Mike DeWine to tour an old military base that has been transformed. When shut down 20 years ago, the port authority got 21 companies involved with various forms of research to move in.
“We’re celebrating today the 20th anniversary by pointing out the things that didn’t even exist 20 years ago,” said President and CEO of the Licking County Port Authority, Rick Platt. “So, we’re going to have a tour of a facility with Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine to show off personalized medicine using DNA testing.”
DeWine toured Chromocare which focuses on different uses DNA research. Jeff Garshon with Chromocare said the company is working “on the forefront of medical technology.” That’s something DeWine said is vital to have in Ohio.
“I think it’s very important to have them here,” he said. “I think it’s just one more piece of the puzzle when we look at the whole picture, and the whole picture is Ohio is a major leader in health related research and health related products.”
DeWine said there isn’t an immediate impact for this technology in his office but that growth in private sector research is always good for statewide economic growth.
