Dillon State Park Resumes Public Events

NASHPORT, Ohio – The Covid-19 pandemic put a halt to a lot of routine programs that entertained and benefited the public and the state parks were no exception.
This year many organizations are returning to normal after the disruption, by offering the services that were taken for granted before.
Dillon State Park Naturalist Michael Durst, who arrived in February, is making efforts to restart the many public programs the park has always offered.
“We have things that are going on every weekend as far as activities and programming that we’re running. Everything from morning hikes and night hikes to campouts, themed campouts. We’ve got movie nights, nature presentations, clean-ups, all kinds of stuff,” Durst said. “Not to mention the park itself, we’ve got hiking trails, mountain biking trails, bridle trails, we have a beach, we have a wonderful campground that’s completely dog friendly, pet friendly, we’ve got two cabin areas with pet friendly options, we have an off leash area down at the beach as well. There’s always something to do.”
Durst mentioned the park offers many recreational opportunities beyond their public events that can be accessed anytime but the frequent public events offer a variety of benefits and are free.
“We’ve got a big Easter celebration coming up this Saturday. We’re going to do some bug hunting, some Easter egg decorating, some Easter egg hunting, we’ll have the Easter bunny in attendance as well. We’ve got a good night hike coming up that also coincides with the Lyrid meteor shower next Friday as well. But every weekend we have stuff going on,” Durst said.
