Dinner on the Farm raises money for two charities

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Muskingum County Farm Bureau had their annual Dinner on the Farm at Dorsets and Daylilies.
The evening brought notice to local foods and celebrating the local community. The dinner was $100 per plate and was a fundraiser for efforts of the Muskingum County Hunger Network and Urban Greens.
“Half of that price is going straight to the donation, said Organization Director for Farm Bureau Kari Burkey. “Another big aspect of the fundraiser, we will have a live auction after the dinner. We have 12 big items that are going to be auctioned off and all the money from those will go toward those two great charities as well.”
There were over 100 people at the dinner. Before the dinner at 6:30 there were four tents that served hors d’oeuvres, beer, as well as wine tastings. Burkey said this event allows people to meet the farmers who raise the food that they eat on a regular basis.
“As times are changing, years ago, everybody was very involved in where there food and fiber came from,” said Burkey. “It consumed a big part of their day. Now as we have technology and a lot of movement toward different thing so that we can feed a whole lot more people, more efficiently, people are removed from the farms. This is an opportunity to get them back and let them be able to see where there food comes from.”
Burkey said they hope they raised about $10,000 to split up between the two charities.
