Disney dreams come true at prom for developmentally disabled
Mickey Mouse and the rest of the Disney gang took over the eagles in Zanesville this evening when the Residential Homes for the Developmentally Disabled hosted their 5th annual spring formal.
The night featured food, dancing, and door prizes for the almost 300 guests. Executive director of RHDD Lisa Reed said that events like this are important reminders of why they work so hard.
“Well look how much fun everybody is having,” said Reed. “We’re so spread out in eight different counties. It’s so fun to get everybody together and just remember that we love each other and that we’re a great big family. ”
RHDD is a non-profit organization that strives to care for those living with developmental disabilities. Reed said the idea to host a prom for those in RHDD came after realizing that many of the residents had never been able to attend a dance. The event was planned and executed by the administrative team for RHDD and Reed said that those involved worked tirelessly to make this Disney dream come to life.
“It takes a huge collaboration to put this on every year,” said Reed.
The dance ran from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and a King and Queen were named as well as Best Costume for men and women.
