Dispose of Flags at Burning Ceremony

If your American flag is looking a little tattered, now might be the perfect time to replace it.

Dee Harding of the American Legion said the Zanesville post is hosting a flag burning ceremony for people to properly dispose of their unwanted flags.

"We have a new box that we put here so everyone can bring their flags and drop them off in that box, because some people don’t seem to know what to do with the flags," said Harding.

Harding said the flag burning ceremony is also a great way for kids to learn about what this country’s symbol means to veterans.

"If someone has never seen the proper way to dispose of a flag, it would be a good time to bring the children and have the family watch the ceremony to know why we all stand up for our flag and for our veterans to show respect," said Harding.

The ceremony will take place at the South Zanesville park on Sunday at 2 p.m.  The Zanesville post also invites the public to enjoy breakfast and lunch specials from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m on weekdays.
