Dive into Nature at Camp Canopy This Summer

ZANESVILLE, OH – Get ready to branch out into the world of forestry at Camp Canopy, presented by the Ohio Forestry Association Foundation.

This year’s Camp Canopy will take place from June 9th to 14th at Ohio FFA Camp Muskingum. Ideal for students from ninth grade to graduating high school seniors, this camp offers a blend of education and adventure in the great outdoors.

“Any kid that just loves to be outside, we’re going to spend the entire week outside and we’re going to be learning about nature. Or, for any kid that thinks this might be a career opportunity they want to go into, they can come and learn from 30 or 40 different people that do different things and see what their career options might be.” Camp Canopy Co Director, Jeremy Scherf said.

Campers will get a hands-on look at forestry and wildlife management, learning skills such as tree identifying, electrofishing, and much more. It’s the perfect opportunity for students to explore while making new friends.

“We spend the entire week outside. I bring in 30 to 40 different foresters and wildlife biologists, and we teach them how to identify trees and how forest management works. We bring a portable sawmill in, and we get to see how logs actually saw into boards. We talk about timber harvesting. We also talk about the wildlife side of things. We’re going to learn about reptiles this year and we’re going to bring a fish shocking boat in to electroshock the lake.” Scherf said.

At the end of the week, campers will take a test to compete for college scholarships. Last year, $8,000 in scholarships was given away. Visit the Camp Canopy website to register and secure your spot.
