‘Do-nut’ underestimate Zanesville’s sweet success: Donald’s Donuts crowned best donut shop in the country

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Zanesville’s very own Donald’s Donuts has officially been crowned the best donut shop in the country, according to USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.
Donald’s has been serving up sweet treats and family traditions since 1960. Now three generations in, the hometown favorite continues to bring in crowds and this week, fans of the local business have been lining up early to show their support. So many people showed up that the shop completely sold out by 10:30 a.m.
“It’s been exciting, USA Today had this readers’ poll, and I don’t have any delusions that I have the best donuts in America, but I do have the best fanbase in America, so it’s been exciting, it’s a wonderful thing but it’s all due to the community,” said Tom Warne, owner of Donald’s Donuts.
Production starts at the bakery as early as 12:30 AM, so Donald’s is looking for more people to join their team.
That early start is necessary to keep up with demand, and with a menu like this, it’s easy to see why. Donald’s offers everything from fan-favorite cream-filled donuts to classic glazed options, giving customers plenty of reasons to keep coming back.
“Obviously everything is good, our most popular has always been our cream filled. Chocolate and maple have kind of gone back and forth but it’s usually chocolate. Just our basics are really good like the plain yeast glazed donuts, our honey buns or glazed cinnamon roll. The jelly filled is my personal favorite, but we have all different kinds,” said Frances Warne, Tom’s daughter and general manager of Donald’s Donuts.
The family says they aren’t planning to go anywhere anytime soon. So “do-nut” worry if you missed out. Donald’s is still baking fresh every day, ready to share their award-winning donuts with the world.
