Document Shredding Event to Benefit Veterans
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Muskingum County is blessed with several organizations, who fundraise on behalf of bettering other organizations and the community.
Good Deeds Service Club Secretary and Matson Retirement Planning Office Manager Tracy Rector announced an upcoming event that aims to uplift veterans and their families during the holidays.
“This is our third annual Community Shred Day and Good Deeds Service Club hosts this event to benefit a local group that we select every year,” Rector said. “This year, we’ve selected the VFW Post 1058, here in Zanesville. They do all kinds of wonderful programs that benefit the veterans at Christmas time. So we’re going to take any donations that we receive for the shredding and offer it to them, so that they can distribute it through their programming.”
Matson Retirement Planning is an agent of Gleaner Life Insurance, which offers a program that allows their agents to establish community service groups and hold fundraising events that benefit the community.
Matson uses the Gleaner funding to hold four Impact Events per year and Saturday’s event will be the last one in 2023.
“When we reached out to the VFW, one thing that they mentioned that they liked doing and can always use help with is their programs where they provide Christmas gifts to veterans in the nursing facilities,” Rector said. “So sometimes those folks don’t have a lot of support from family or outside people. And so just making sure that those vets know that they’re not forgotten and that they’re appreciated is especially important at Christmas time. So they were going to use the funds toward that project.”
The Shred Day event will be held rain or shine, between 9 a.m. and noon this Saturday, in the parking lot of Matson Insurance, located at 1166 Military Road.
Shred-it Mobile Paper Shredding and Recycling will offer their services for free to allow larger donations for the VFW and Grace & Grounds Coffee will be on-site to offer their craft coffee beverages.
