Dog license sales begin tomorrow

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- If you own a dog you will want to listen up. It’s that time of year again to renew your dog tags.
All dog owners in the county are required to purchase a dog license for any dog over three months old. The licenses can be purchased from the Muskingum County Auditor and helps protect both dogs and their owners.
“It’s very important for them to have a license,” said Debra Nye, the County Auditor. “If the dog would somehow be separated from the owner that license would be on the dog’s collar and that person would then be able to look that particular number up on my website and know who that dog belongs to.”
Tomorrow one special dog will be given the first dog license of the year. This dog is currently available for adoption through the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center. Families interested in the dog can put their name in a drawing to take him home. His new owner will only have to pay $95 for his adoption fee while the Auditor takes care of his $10 license fee.
“We have joined up with the dog kennel today and we are promoting the dog named Snickers. Tomorrow he will be up for sale and we have all of these items that have been donated by various vendors throughout the county and all of those items that have been donated by them will go to Snickers. Whoever the owner becomes,” said Nye.
Families can visit the Adoption Center tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m. for a chance to take Snickers home. The drawing will be held at 3 p.m. and you must be present. Dog licenses are available for purchase December 1st through January 31st.
