Domestic Violence Luncheon

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a local women’s shelter is having a special luncheon.

Transitions Incorporated will be hosting its annual luncheon and silent auction this Friday at noon at the Zanesville Country Club. The money raised at the event will go towards paying for the daily living expenses of the women who reside at the shelter.

"Paying for upkeep on a car that we use to take them to appointments or to court, it help pays for pamphlets for educational purposes," said Victim’s Advocate, Dorothy Thomas.

The shelter houses women for at least a month while they are trying to escape from dangerous and often times life threatening situations.

" We work with the women to try to set up goals and help them get a place to live, maybe get a job, get baby-sitters, whatever they need to do so they can live on their own and be independent," said Thomas.

People can register for the luncheon up until Wednesday at noon by calling the Transition’s office. If you can’t make the event, but would still like to donate you can also contact their office for the required information. This year the shelter did not receive an important federal grant and they say they would appreciate the community’s help in keeping the shelter running.
