Dos for Dads helps parents learn to manage their kids hair types and textures
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – If your child has a different hair type and texture from you, it can be difficult to understand the differences in hair care needs, but Brenwood Salon and Retail Center is here to help.
Brenwood is hosting their Dos with Dads event with a hands-on class to teach the basics of styling and caring for your child’s hair. An event that stylist Allie Norman says comes from a need they noticed in their everyday work.
“As stylist we have a lot of parents come in, or event children come in, that struggle with their hair. I’ve personally had a few kids come in and they ask me how to take care of their hair because they’re embarrassed or they feel bad asking their parents or vice versa. Parents come in, they’re like ‘hey kid has this hair type, it’s completely different from mine. I’m not sure what to do about it.’ So, we see the coming in-and-out on a daily basis. So, we really wanted to really make an enviroment where people feel comfortable asking questions…”
You can prepay for the event for $25 or at the door for $35, which covers the class, goodie bags, and snacks. Norman points out that while it’s called Dos for Dads, it’s actually an event for everyone taking care of a child.
“It’s called Dos with Dads because a majority of the time it’s a single father who’s struggling to take care of their kids hair but it really is everybody. Like, it is moms too and parents who are together. Their hair might be completely different from their kids’ or even people who adopt, they might not know the hair texture of the child that they adopted. So, we’re all really really excited to be able to help the community and help kids feel confident in their bodies and their hair. And, help adults feel in taking care of their kids hair. ”
You can learn more or register for the event on the Brenwood Salon and Retail Center Facebook page. The event is at their location at 1709 Maple Avenue on Jan. 11 from 1-3 p.m.
