ZANESVILLE, Ohio- For this weeks downtown Zanesville farmers market feature we introduce Sharon Bauer.

Bauer has been selling her varieties of salsa, spreads and condiments for nearly five years. She got her start in a rather humble way, growing from just five different items to over 30 varieties.

“I did it at home for my kids growing up, I canned everything and then someone said well, why don’t you make apple butter and why don’t you make this, and so I started taking a few things to the market and then people started asking for more things and more thing so it kind of just grew,” said Bauer.

Bauer said some of her number one sellers are the pineapple peach jam and apple butter. She sources her ingredients locally, all in an effort to strengthen the economic base of the community.

“This helps me pay my bills, a lot of us local people, this is how we pay our bills. We don’t have nine-to-five jobs, this is what we do,” said Bauer. “For every person that comes and spends a dollar or $10, that helps us and it keeps the money locally.”

You can find Bauer on Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m. every week on the corner of Market Street and N 3rd Street.

The downtown farmers market will run until the end of the summer.
