Downtown Zanesville Is Thriving
Downtown Zanesville is booming, with 180 businesses currently, and more working to relocate every day.
Over 130,000 cars enter downtown every 24 hours which means approximately 1,560,000 cars drive through downtown Zanesville every year. Businesses are starting to take note of this traffic as downtown is growing.
“Something that most people didn’t think they would hear, a north end business locating to downtown Zanesville,” said Membership Service Director for the Zanesville Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce, Dana Matz. “Most people remember from the 70’s when businesses left the downtown and moved north. Now we can say we’ve got one coming back, Quality Care Partner is moving into the former Zanesville Federal building.”
With the addition of new businesses the downtown residential life is also growing. Right now there are 430 people living in downtown Zanesville. Many residential property owners tell the ZDA that they have a wait list for their rental units. So more residential units are a necessity.
“They also, when they were renovating that building, they put a residential part in that, and as we’re saying the more feet that are on the streets the better things can be,” stated Matz.
