Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Celebration Continues

One local church is getting a little wacky celebrating a famous author’s birthday.

Muskingum County Head Start has been celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday all week long with different exciting events and tonight they held an event at the the Coburn United Methodist Church where nearly 300 children and their families were in attendance.

"With this event it gives the parents and families opportunities to spend time with their children learning about what and literacy. The importance of play, especially for the preschoolers and the importance of play and that they are actually learning through that," said Libby Speich. "This is an opportunity for parents to see their children play each of the activities have a goal with them and those are school readiness goals and that helps our children getting ready for kindergarten. It’s helps our families understand that their also learning through their play."

Speich said this event is split up into several different educational stations and each one has a Dr. Seuss theme.

"We have a literacy station, we have a cat and a hat that is reading to our children," said Speoch. "We have the math, so it goes 1,2,3 so it goes along with the Dr. Seuss book. So everything is around this Dr. Seuss theme."

Dr. Seuss would have been 112 this year.
