Dresden Legacy Days

Starting this morning people traversed Dresden to experience the first ever Legacy Day in the village.

The event was conceived by the people of Dresden coming together and wanting to expand on the diverse history from the area. President of the Dresden community association Steve Wilson says the event allows the village to showcase its history.

“We have a rich history in the underground railroad as you know from Ms. Tubman, we have the Erie Canal system that ran through here, the railroads were very prominent and we have a deep native american culture in this area as well and we thought it would be a great addition to the Longaberger legacy that’s already here to develop thematically our Legacy Days.”

Events scattered throughout the village today, with presenters, historians, collectors and first person re-enactors. All in an effort to make experiencing our local history a bit more fun and interactive.

“I think it’s important that we learn our history and so often history is what happened yesterday in the minds of a lot of people and there are folks in our community that are passionate about history and teaching history and reliving history and I think it’s important that we learn it and keep that tradition alive.”

Wilson says that they plan on having the event again in the future and would even like to try and dedicate an entire weekend to it.
