Drug Take Back Event

Drug Take Back Event

The Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department is holding a Drug Take Back Event.

It’s Saturday, September 27 from 10AM to 2PM. Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz says all expired or unused medication will be accepted.

"Our service provides anything that you bring in prescription pills wise we’ll take, including the containers they come in, liquid, the DEA wont take and we’ll also take sharps that can be disposed of."

Illicit substances will not be accepted. The event is a drive-thru which allows you to quickly and conveniently drop off your old prescriptions. Lutz says that events like these are important for the community.

"Any time that we can, you know, dispose of something properly and keep it out of the hands of the youth where they’ll get sick or even die on overdosing on some of that stuff when they don’t know what their dealing with. And same way you know, it helps cut down on our drug problem because we’ve had you know, family members steal from family members when it comes to prescription pills. We’ve had break-ins where that stuff is taken….we’ve taken several pounds each time of pills off the street that could have been disposed of in the wrong way and could have ended up in the wrong hands."

The event is supported by Muskingum Behavioral Health, Genesis, Northside Pharmacy and the Drug Enforcement Agency. To learn more you can call the Muskingum County Health Department at: (740)454-9741
