ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Covid-19 compelled states to examine the need for expanding voting opportunities and procedures, which turned voting day into election season.

Tuesday marks the first day of early voting for the 2025 Fall General Election and Board of Elections Specialist Cheryl West announced ways voters can carry-out their obligation beyond just showing up on election day.

“The next upcoming election is a general election and that will be November the 4th,” West said. “So starting tomorrow, up until the Monday before election you can come to the office and vote early. We start tomorrow, which would be the 7th at 8 a.m. People can come in to vote just like they normally would at their election location. The closer we get to the election, we have expanded hours.”

The Muskingum County Board of Elections is located at the intersection of Seventh and Market Streets in Zanesville. You can find more information such as specific hours, I D  requirements and mail-in voting procedures online

“If, for some reason, you can’t come to the office, or make it to your voting location on election day, you still still have the option of voting by mail,” West said. “There again with that, you still have to fill out the form in advance, in order for us to send the ballot to you. And once you have the ballot, that’s the ballot you’re expected to vote, is the one you get in the mail. The last day to return a request to get your ballot is October 28th. So we want to make sure you get it on-time and then get it back to us.”

West noted that what makes this election significant, is the amount of locally related content that will be on the ballot.
