Earth Day presentation at OUZ
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Earth Day is coming up on April 22nd and the national theme is ending plastic pollution.
The executive director from the Muskingum Valley Park District will be at Ohio University Zanesville to do a presentation on the prevalence of plastics in everyday life.
“These single use plastic bags there are literally millions of them floating around the ocean and, you know, the thing about plastic is that once it’s here it’s here forever,” said Russell Edgington the Executive Director. “It doesn’t’ break down. So the purpose of the presentation really is to talk about how plastics are really integrated into everything that we do in life.”
Edgington said people don’t seem to appreciate the world we live in and are becoming desensitized to the impacts we have on the world. He said there’s an easy way to change that.
“I think probably the most important thing to do on earth day is to get outside. Put away the smartphones. Stop playing the games and stuff; and get outside in nature. And that’s probably one of the most critical things,” said Edgington.
The program will take place on Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Elson Hall Auditorium at OUZ. All ages are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
