Eating Organic
Most people know fast food is fattening, but what you may not know is the food you eat from a grocery store could also impact your health. View Video story to the left or read below.
Products you eat every day may affect your health. Even cooking meat from the grocery store could strip your body of the nutrients it needs. Eating grass fed meat can help the issue.
"Even the smallest amount of grains can ruin the high amounts of CLA, for example, or Omega 3 that are in the meat. So obviously, it is a more natural product . It’s un-adulterated and so your body is able to process it and take what it needs from it and use it better and make you healthier in the process," said Owner Katie Williams.
All meat at Sweet Meadows is from local farmers. It is grass fed with no anti-biotics, hormones, or steroids added.
It’s not just the meat you eat that matters, but also everyday products. Eggs from naturally raised chickens are healthier and have a brighter yoke. Other healthier daily items are your breakfast bars, milk and bread.
"Non homogenized milk that is less processed than ultra pasteurized homogenized milk you find in the super market and we have local bread that are sprouted and when you sprout the grain it releases all the goodies that are inside the grain that make it more available to the body," said Brown.
A frequent shopper who now eats as many natural products as she can afford began eating organic when her husband was diagnosed with M.S.
"So basically it has been small steps. We started by changing peanut butters and easy things, the sugars, and it improved his health greatly actually," said frequent shopper Esther Thacker.
She also feels better and says it is as if her body went through a cleanse. Her children also eat a healthy diet.
"They are fine. I explain to them why we want to eat these foods and why we want to remain healthy. If I give them the choice between a piece of cake you know from a food store or one that I’ve made with whole grain they’ll choose mine every time," says Thacker.
Katie Brown says not to feel overwhelmed by all the organic options. Start by changing something simple like butter or eggs. Quickly you will feel a difference.
"I have so much energy. I have two kids and I bring them to work with me and one on the way and I have energy to boot," said Brown.
Sweet Meadows also offers many Gluten Free products and organic home care products.
