Ed Fitzgerald Visits Zanesville

The Democratic gubernatorial nominee Ed Fitzgerald visited Zanesville Sunday afternoon.

While in town he spoke at the Muskingum County Democratic party picnic at Falls Township Park. Fitzgerald’s message was short, but it resonated well with the people at the picnic. He focused on making sure people know that he his campaigning to give them a voice.

"The biggest difference is going to be that we’re going to prioritize this area. If you look at where money is being spent. It’s being spent overwhelmingly with the state government and in Columbus," Fitzgerald said. "And for places like Zanesville that has had some struggles economically, they need a partner in state government that says look, let’s sit down at the table, let’s take some of that local tax money and actually keep it in local communities instead of it making a one way trip to Columbus."

He believes that local tax dollars should stay locally. During his address he said that people should be paid a decent wage, and he doesn’t see that from the Kasich administration.

"It’s time to have a governor that actually understands that it’s not just what happens in Columbus or Cleveland or Cincinnati but what happens in smaller communities including this one," Fitzgerald said.

He added that Muskingum County doesn’t always vote to one side of the ticket, so he has spent time around the county to tell people that the democratic party doesn’t believe the economy has been working for the average person.
