Educational Summer Camp at Ohio University Zanesville
Muskingum County middle school girls have an opportunity to learn from college professors this June.
By partnering with Ohio University of Zanesville, Muskingum Behavioral Health is having a summer camp to teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade girls the values of being independent, intelligent and confident.
Sensitivity, Tolerance, Attitude, Responsibility and Self-Esteem (S.T.A.R.S.) coordinator, Ronelle Barnett, explained the focus of the camp.
“We’re having a three day camp here at Ohio University Zanesville all focusing on girl power, basically building a positive self image [and] self esteem.” She said it’s about “who they are, who they want to be, where they want to go, what they want to do.”
Girls will be given the opportunity to study science, self-defense and many other skills. Barnett said sign in is a 8:30 each morning and the camp will end around 4:00 p.m. each day.
“They’re going to be busy from the time they walk in the door to the time they ‘re done,” Barnett said. “They’re going to be going through 14 different workshops over the three days. We have three large group presentations.”
The camp runs from June 9th throughout the 11th. Barnett said the $15 registration is still open.
