Edward “Buddy” Barr

Edward L. “Buddy” Barr, recently of New Concord, passed away at Beckett House Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, New Concord, on Saturday (September 6, 2025).

Buddy was born in Byesville in April of 1933. He graduated from Byesville High School and joined the Ohio National Guard. He eventually earned the rank of 1st Sergeant while working at Champion Spark Plug of Cambridge and also working as a “handyman” for the community. After retiring from both Champion and the Ohio National Guard, he went on to work for the State of Ohio.

Buddy married Betty J. Cornette in December of 1964. They were married for 60 years. Together, they raised six children: Kevin Barr of Missouri, Lisa Lucas of Georgia, Sheila Poland of Ohio, Kyle Barr of South Carolina, James Sasser of Florida, and Timothy Sasser of Ohio. They also helped to raise numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and hopefully future generations to come.

Before his death, Buddy requested no flowers or service at the funeral home. The family has decided to have a “Remembrance Service” at the New Concord Church of Christ (where he was a member) on Saturday (September 13, 2025) from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. The public is invited to stop by and share memories of Buddy with the family. Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, is handling arrangements.
