Eggs Recalled Nationwide

Due to a Salmonella scare, over a half billion eggs are now being recalled nationwide.

The Muskingum County Health Department is spreading awareness about Salmonella.

"They think that some of it is coming from some chickens and laying hens that have acquired an A symptomatic case of Salmonella and that it get’s into their egg producing organs and is passed on through the egg," said Dr. Vicki Whitacre.

Dr. Whitacre says you could be at risk for Salmonella if you don’t properly refridgerate you egg or cook it thoroughly.

"You get vomiting and diarrhea and you can become severely dehydrated from that, occasionally, particularly if you’re immune compromised; elderly or small child it could get in the blood stream and make you very ill," she said.

Health officials say they have not seen any cases locally.
