Elder-Beerman to Close in Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, Ohio–It looks like the Colony Square Mall is losing another one of its anchor stores.

The Estee Lauder Manager at Elder Beerman said that  the head of human resources met with employees Tuesday afternoon and told them that Elder Beerman is closing in the next 10 to 12 weeks.

Nickie Van Dyne Norton said only two bids from liquidators were submitted during a bankruptcy auction for Bon Ton Stores, which is the parent company of Elder Beerman.

Norton said there was hope another company would buy the stores, but it did not happen. Norton said  a “big liquidation sale” is possible in the future.

In early February, Bon-Ton filed for restructuring under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code.

Norton said store employees are saddened by the news of the upcoming closing that will affect 200 stores.
