Elizabeth “Betty” J. (Christ) Gildow,

Elizabeth “Betty” J. (Christ) Gildow, age 91, of Zanesville, died 7:35 PM, Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Genesis Morrison House Hospice in Zanesville. She was born Friday, May 24, 1929, in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of J. Karl Christ and Mabel (Swingle) Christ. She was married on Saturday, June 21, 1947, to Fredrick Gildow who preceded her in death on Monday, January 10, 2005.
Together they raised five children: Frederick “Fred” (Viqui) Gildow, Jr., Ellen (Mark) Rucker, Kenneth “Ken” Gildow (Tracy Fancelli), Linda (Joe) Rocca and Karen Davis (Thad Andrews); 13 grandchildren: Doug (Liyu) Gildow, Nick (Josie) Gildow, Marie (Shane Irvin) Gildow, Wendi (Mark) Decker, Karen Rucker, Brad Rucker, Lindsay Rucker, Kristen (Tom) Shutt, Tony (Anna) Rocca, Andrea Rocca, Emily Rocca, Casey Street, Corey (Amber) Street, and Wesley (Desiree Barnes) Davis; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Halttunen.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Jim (Harriett) Christ, Ed (Dorothy) Crist, and Charlie (Evelyn) Christ; brother-in-law, Ed Halttunen; and 5 sisters: Mary (Fred) DeWerth, Gertrude Christ Benedict, Agnes (Dorr) Park, Eileen (David) Jack, and Margaret Christ.
Betty was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and retired from Muskingum County Clerk of Courts where she worked as a deputy clerk. Betty was previously involved with the Muskingum County Women’s Republican Club, Legal Secretaries Association, and a chapter of the Ohio Child Conservation League.
Betty was an avid sea shell collector, kept every card she ever received, wrote down every memory, lived on candy, cookies, coffee and loved with her whole heart. She was feisty to the end.

Friends may call from 11 AM to 12 PM on Friday, January 8, 2021, at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 1020 East Main Street, Zanesville. Where a Funeral Mass will follow at 12 Noon with Fr. Martin Ralko officiating. Burial will conclude in the Zanesville Memorial Park.
