Elizabeth Burrier

Elizabeth Ann Burrier, 95, of Zanesville passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at The Oaks at Bethesda. Liz was born May 7th, 1930, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Ada (Weaver) Rogers, in Zanesville, Ohio. A proud graduate of Zanesville High School and Wittenburg University, she worked at Watkins Flowers, Springfield High School, and Zanesville High School, where she served as a speech and dramatics teacher, coached the cheerleaders, including the first “Blue Devil” mascot, and directed the plays. After her marriage to James L. “Jim” Burrier in August 1965, Liz was active in the community, serving on the Women’s Benevolent Society, the Secrest Auditorium Seating Fund and Celebration Committee, the Founding Board of Consumer Credit Counseling, the Genesis Advisory Board, Bethesda Care System Board of Trustees, Bethesda Quality of Care Board, the United Way Strategic Planning Committee , the Board of Directors of the Zanesville Art Center, the YWCA Advisory Council, YWCA Board of Directors, and the Zanesville Alumni Association Board. She was a member of the Zanesville Business and Professional Women’s Club, Author’s Club and the Thursday Music Club. Along with her husband Jim, she was a founder and Co-Chair of the West Muskingum Academic fund. She ran a Modern Woodmen Teen Club, was an active member of the Muskingum County Retired Teachers Association, drove for Meals on Wheels, and was a Bethesda Hospital Foundation Office Volunteer. She was a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church and regularly attended services at Central Presbyterian, where Jim was a member.
Her many honors include the Daybreak Kiwanis Volunteer in Education Award, the West Muskingum Board of Education Award, the Wilson School Honored Alumni Award, the West Muskingum Local School District Distinguished Service Award, the United Way Presidents Award for Community Service, the Bob and Dolores Hope Good Samaritan Award, the Hiram Heck Community Service Award and was a three time winner of the Modern Woodmen Merit Club Leaders Conference Award.
Liz is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 35 years, Jim; and her brother and sister Robert Rogers and Kathryn Rogers Mitchell.
She is survived by daughter Beth of Purchase, NY, niece Kathy Taylor of Charlotte, NC, and nephews Gary and Robert Rogers of Indiana, as well as many great-nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call from 11:00 A.M until time of service starting at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE with Pastor Tara Mitchell officiating. Liz will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband James at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
