Elmer Lentz

Elmer F. Lentz, 89 of Zanesville, passed away, Tuesday, September 23, 2025, surrounded by his family, at Genesis Morrison House Hospice following a brief illness. He was born Saturday, April 4, 1936, in Zanesville, the son of Rodney Lentz and Glenna (Bryslan) Lentz. He married D. Darlene (McCance) Lentz on Tuesday, July 19, 1966, and was Baptist by Faith.
Elmer was a veteran of the United States Army, and a Paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division. Elmer worked as a Union Millwright Construction Worker with Millwright Local #1755 in Parkersburg, WV, where he was a member of the union for over 50 years. He along with his wife, Darlene, owned and operated Lentz Rentals; where they were known to be good and honest landlords. Elmer was a member of American Legion Post #29 and Seneca Sam’s Camping Club #24. He was the patriarch of a blended family and was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather who greatly enjoyed the time he spent with them.
Elmer is survived by four children, Jeff (Franki) Lentz, Glenna K. Simon, Debra D. Sarbaugh, and Carlene I. Fowler; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Scheid and Judy Dickerson; one brother Larry (Cheryl) Lentz; two sisters-in-law, Martha Lentz and Linda (Tim) McGrady and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-six years, D. Darlene Lentz; two sons, David E. Jacobs and Stephen W. Lentz and one brother, Bob Lentz.
Friends may call from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, Monday, September 29, 2025, at the Hillis Combs Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where service will follow at 12:30 PM, with Pastor Keith Taylor officiating. Immediately following services, the United States Army and VFW Post 1058 will conduct full military honors. Private burial will conclude in the family plots in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
