Emergency Management Agency discussed severe weather
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Tuesday’s bad weather marks the start of severe weather season for southeast Ohio.
Director of Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency Jeff Jadwin, was at Zanesville Noon Rotary Club on April 3, 2018 talking about severe weather and the role of the E.M.A. With areas already seeing flooding, Jadwin discussed how to handle the ongoing situation.
“Well with severe weather season you just need to be aware of what’s going on,” said Jadwin. “Like tonight we are starting to see some flooding in the county. I’ve been out surveying the river today, we’re good on the water level in the river. It’s high but we’ve still got room for it to come up more before we’ll have flooding.”
Lower-lying areas, especially in Roseville and Cannelville, Ohio are experiencing flooding as creeks and small streams have already breached their banks. Jadwin cautioned people against driving through flooded roadways.
“People just need to be aware of high water,” Jadwin said. “Turn around, don’t drown. We don’t want to do rescues, so if the water looks deep, turn around and go a different way.”
The Muskingum County E.M.A. has a reverse 911 messaging system for weather-related emergencies. To sign up for these alerts go to Citizensalert60.org or call 740-453-1655.
