Employee Celebrates 50 years

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A local bank celebrates an employee’s retirement and continued work after 50 years of service.
Senior Vice President Barbara Gibbs is celebrating her 50th year at Century National Bank on June 5, 2017. Gibbs said it’s surprising how fast the time has gone since she started and it’s pretty amazing seeing all the changes.
“After being here for 50 years it’s hard to just walk away from it,” said Gibbs. “It’s a big part of your life you spend a lot of time here. So I’m really enjoying the couple days a week that I come in and get to see costumers, I get to see my co-workers, and then I go home and have a five day weekend. So it works out pretty good.”
Chairman of the Board Tom Lyall said he’s happy Gibbs will still be working a few days a week after she officially retired December 2016. Gibbs can now continue to train employees on services for their clients.
“I think Barbara demonstrated with her actions on the importance of a customer and the importance of building a lasting relationship,” Lyall said. “She instituted a lot of those kind of little small things that over time consistently executed and create absolutely great customer relations.”
When Gibbs meets with a customer she builds a relationship with them so they may feel comfortable to go back for purchases and questions. Gibbs thinks Century National Bank will continue to serve the customers in that manner.
According to Gibbs a few co-workers were discussing Century National Banks 100 years of banking and Gibbs had the realization she was their employee for exactly half of that time.
“It’s probably unusual that you can work for a company that you can spend all 50 years with the same business, like I’ve been able to do,” said Gibbs. “I think that speaks highly of Century National Bank.”
