Energy Expo to Brighten Futures
Oil and gas drilling companies are moving closer to our area, and although the economy continues to suffer, energy-related jobs are expected to grow.
The Utilities, Gas and Oil Career Expo is designed to help people learn about the different jobs available. Supervisor of the Muskingum County Opportunity Center Bob Mercer said careers in energy are changing, and companies are looking to hire employees who are willing to adapt and acquire new skills.
"The issue has been that there haven’t been a lot of positions, and from what we understand, with an aging workforce, our energy-related partners are going to need people," said Mercer. "We want to make sure that everyone becomes open to the possibility of getting into an energy-related job."
In attendance will be gas, oil and electric companies as well as Zane State College, Mid-East Career and Technology Centers and the Adult Center for Education. Employers will provide equipment demonstrations and explain how the training process works. Mercer said those wishing to brighten their future should attend this event.
"Our target group was ages 16 to 26, but when we talked about that, we felt that it’s important for all people who are interested in getting into energy-related jobs would have an opportunity to talk to someone," said Mercer.
The expo will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 6 PM at the Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center.
