Energy Saving Tips
It’s that time of year, if your home isn’t properly winterized you could be throwing money right out the window.
Home Depot’s Frank Berlo said the number one thing people forget when winterizing their home is to double-check the insulation.
"Most people don’t even know how much insulation they have in their home or if they have some they have maybe 4-5 inches of insulation," explained Berlo. "Now to be properly energy efficient you’re suppose to have a minimum of 18 inches."
Berlo said proper insulation could save upwards of 35% on your heating bill. Another energy saving item commonly overlooked are "outlet sealers."
"You take off your outlet cover and then there is usually, you can feel cold air back there," described Berlo. "So you put this outlet sealer in there, and these are just pennies too, put the cover back on and you’re not loosing, you don’t have cold air blowing out."
Home Depot offers free energy audits. A Home Depot Representative will use a hand thermometer to detect where energy is being lost in your home. For more information contact your local Home Depot.
