ZANESVILLE, OH – It was a morning of inspiration and upliftment at the Secrest Auditorium on December 14th, as Erik Weihenmayer took the stage for the No Barriers presentation.

Erik Weihenmayer, known for his extraordinary achievements despite losing his sight at a young age, shared his life journey and insights to local schools and community members. His message to the audience was clear and powerful, proving that barriers are meant to be broken.

“I’m a mountain climber and I’m an adventurer. I’ve been doing that for like 30 years. I was a teacher for six years, and I could’ve done that forever, but I got this crazy idea to see if I could become a blind mountain climber… and I made it work. It’s been really fun to climb mountains and kayak rivers and do adventures.” Weihenmayer said.

The event, sponsored by the Straker Foundation, was free to the public and offered an opportunity for the community to dive into Erik’s world of adventure. Not only did they leave entertained, but also inspired to look at their own barriers and challenges in new light.

“We talked about our No Barriers motto: what’s within us is stronger than what’s in our way. I guess that really speaks to this idea that there are real barriers in the world. There are hard things to break through. When we build a great team around us, when we build the right tool kit, when we create the right mindset, that we can overcome those very real barriers. You know, it’s really the triumph of the human spirit over challenge.” Weihenmayer said.
