Erosion on West Bank Near McConnelsville-Malta Dam

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office says The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has found an erosion of the west bank of the Muskingum River on the McConnelsville-Malta Dam.

ODNR and a private contractor are working to shore up the river bank. Morgan County Road 2 is closed as a precautionary matter to allow workers to repair the embankment without delay. There appears to be no danger of a dam collapse.

ODNR intends to have temporary repairs made late Thursday night and will continue to monitor the river bank through the night and reassess the situation Friday.
