Escaped Convict from Oklahoma Caught in Licking County

Authorities say a man who escaped from an Oklahoma prison in 2005 has been arrested in Licking County.

Sheriff Randy Thorp says the investigation began into the identity of a man who Buckeye Lake Police and deputies arrested on Sunday on aggravated robbery and breaking and entering charges.

He says the man, who told authorities his name was Steven Martin of Buckeye Lake, admitted to breaking into the Valero Gas Station on State Route 79 back in April.

Thorp says while interviewing Martin detectives became suspicious of his identity.

Martin admitted to authorities that he had been using an alias identity for many years but refused to give detectives his real name.

Thorp says his office ran Martin’s fingerprints Tuesday through an Automated Fingerprint Identification System which showed his real name is Steven Capps.

Authorities say  the 38-year-old escaped from a Correction Facility in Hodgen, Oklahoma where he was serving a 20 year sentence for obtaining property by trick or deception. He is also a registered sex offender.

Capps is currently in the Licking County Jail and could be facing additional charges.
