Esther Green

Esther Mae Lewis Green, age 98, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, in Zanesville, Ohio. She was born on February 10, 1928, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, to Delcie Mae Kennedy and James V. Lewis.
Esther was a graduate of East High School in Columbus, Ohio. She was a longtime resident of Zanesville and spent the past nine years at Brookdale Senior Living, where she enjoyed the companionship of her dear sister, Elizabeth (Libby) Curtis. She was married to David S. Green, who preceded her in death in 1996.
Esther devoted her life to her family and took great pride in raising her children. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a creative and artistic person who especially enjoyed drawing, often expressing herself as a self-taught sketch artist. Esther also loved traveling, especially taking cruises, and she enjoyed relaxing while watching the Game Show Channel. She loved listening to country music, which was another favorite pastime. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping at Goodwill, where she enjoyed browsing for unique finds and treasures. For many years, she was a regular fixture at Colony Square Mall and was active in the Wanda Morgan Club.
She is survived by her children: Paula (Edward) Wakefield of Pataskala, Ohio; Shelley (Gregory) Betts of Pataskala, Ohio; Bruce (Tammy) Green of Blacklick, Ohio; and Bradley (Cris) Green of Avon, Indiana.
She is also survived by her dear sister and companion, Elizabeth (Libby) Curtis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Esther is survived by her grandchildren: Roger Wakefield, Gregg Wakefield, Dennis Wakefield, Curtis Soller, Millicent Morgan, David Morgan, Gina Morgan, Brianna Betts, Alyssa Green, Schuyler Green, Tori Green, Robert Hollingshead, Jermaine Green, Jeremy Green, Brandy Green, Michael Bowen, and Ruth Ann McCollister.
She is also survived by 48 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, David S. Green, Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Delcie Mae Kennedy and James V. Lewis; her sons, David Green Jr. and Michael Green; and her siblings, Eva Morgan Dickinson, James (Buck) Lewis, Clyde Victor Lewis, and Wanda Bailey.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Brookdale Senior Living and Genesis Hospice for the loving care and support they provided to Esther. She loved her time at Brookdale and truly enjoyed the years she spent there. The family is deeply grateful to everyone who took such great care of her.
Esther will be lovingly remembered for her devotion to her family, her warm companionship, her artistic spirit, her love of country music, and the many wonderful memories she created with those she loved.
Visitation will take place at Greater Apostolic Church Christ in Zanesville on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 10am until 11am with funeral services starting at 11am. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES is serving the family.
