Esther Young

Esther Young, 89, of Zanesville, passed away at her home on Thursday August 13, 2026. She was born on May 5, 1937 in Somerset, a daughter of the late Anthony and Inez (Burgoon) Schmeltzer. She graduated from Rosecrans High School. She worked at United Technologies for 50 years. She helped with MASS Bingo for many years. She attended Saint Nicholas Catholic Church and she enjoyed time with her family. She is survived by her husband Franklin L. Young, Sr. Seven children Franklin L. Young, Jr., Nancy A. McCarthy, Susan L. Kinder, Judith A. Gates, Anita Dykeman, Michelle A. Knight, and Stacy Bollinger Mole. 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two children Christopher R. Young and Christina Young Bollinger. Three deceased brothers Walter Schmeltzer, Leo Schmeltzer, and Hugh Schmeltzer. Three deceased sisters Margaret Dutton, Mae Sigrist, and Charlotte Untied who gave Esther a loving home after their mother passed away. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Tuesday August 18, 2026 with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage with Father Chris Tuttle officiating.
