Evelyn Jeanette Ramey was born in Bern Township, Athens County, Ohio on June 27, 1936, to Nora Leona (Lewis) Fischer and John Rodney Fischer. In 1954, Jeanette graduated from Lash High School in Zanesville, Ohio, where she excelled in athletics. In 1951, she was a member of the Hawkeyes softball team that rallied in the Girls City League, and she was also employed as a cashier and certified lifeguard at the segregated Inkwell pool and the municipal swimming pool.

On August 6, 1955, Jeanette married Virgil Paul Ramey. To this union, three children were born–Patsy Ann, Eugene Paul, and Virgil Lee. In her own words, “this was the most wonderful and interesting time of my life, raising three children.” As a Christian believer, she created a safe haven for her children and grandchildren and extended a warm embrace to welcome neighborhood friends and animals in need of respite. Jeanette knew that laughter, games, music, dance, and good food could drive out the darkness and light up any atmosphere! She looked forward to attending the annual Lewis family reunion, and fellowship with kin folks sparked her interest in genealogy research.

In 1959, Jeanette went to work at RCA in Cambridge, Ohio before joining the assembly line and transferring to Quality Control Coordinator at United Technologies in Zanesville. She retired in 1995 after completing 33 years of service. Away from the job, she loved to read, plant flowers, and travel, both domestically and internationally.

Jeanette transitioned from this life on March 8, 2026. She is preceded in death by her son, Eugene Ramey; parents, John and Leona (Lewis) Fischer; two sisters, Patsy Ann Fischer and Betty (Fischer) Sowel.

She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Ann (Ramey) McDonald and son, Virgil Lee Ramey, both of Zanesville; three brothers, Everette (Buddy) Fischer of Zanesville, Leon (Butch) Fischer of Dayton, and John, Jr. (Punk) Fischer of Columbus; six grandchildren, Sheree Dunn, Jaymin McDonald, Jarrod McDonald, Jordan McDonald, Anna McDonald, and Katlyn Norman; three great grandchildren, Rylee Washington, Brooklyn Dunn, and Jaymin Andre McDonald, as well as a host of precious relatives and friends.
