Everett Park Offers Disc Golf

Everett Park, one Newark takes a lot of pride in, is excited to be offering some new amenities to the public.

Through the under-utilization and overgrowth the parks department of Newark saw a great opportunity to start a new project. With the help of the Licking County Foundation stepping up to help with funding, this was all able to come to life.

“This was overgrown, it was really just woods and thicket so they cleared it out a lot. It’s kind of an ongoing process and as we develop the course more and kind of feel it out, we’ll trim some trees back and of course it takes some maintenance each year but this is a full 18 hole course. It’s got three par 5’s, three par 3’s and the rest of course are par 4’s so it’s a full course for everyone” says Mayor of Newark Jeff Hall.

Elderly citizens of Newark understand that there is a lot of history to this park so Mayor Hall is taking every step he can to preserve that history and that wouldn’t have been possible without all of those who have sponsored and collaborated for this project.

“This was a great project to pull together. We have a disc golf course on top of Horns Hill, another park in the city and so that idea we’ve seen works well. It’s a very cost effective type sport for us to support and provide. Also on the user side it’s very cost effective and very inexpensive to have some fun with from a family perspective.”

Everyone is encouraged to come have some fun and enjoy they bike path along the river, their expanding walking trail, the baseball diamonds and a community garden, specially this fall.
