Fair Food Safety

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – People attending the Muskingum County Fair should be comforted to know all food providers and facilities are being tested.
The Muskingum County fair has over 100 vendors and temporary food service license registered to serve. According to Registered Sanitarian Tom Stratford Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department has people testing all food services throughout the week of August 13, 2017 through August 19, 2017.
“When we go in to do food inspections we are doing a standard food inspection,” Stratford said. “We look at the facility in terms of cleanliness, we look for cross-contamination issues, and we look for temperature violations.”
If negative results arise then the Health Department will explain what’s wrong, how to fix the problem, and they’ll send someone to re-test later on.
“The [Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department] is out today, the entire [Division of Public Health],” Stratford said. “To assure that the food is safe, that the vendors are following code, and every facility is inspected.”
Stratford said all who have complaints on food and how it’s cooked should return to the food provider and let them know what’s wrong with the meal.
