Families celebrate reading fun at library’s summer kick off event

ZANESVILLE, OH- Families and book lovers of all ages filled Colony Square Mall today for the annual Muskingum County Reading Festival, hosted by the Muskingum County Library System and the Muskingum County Literacy Council.
The free event featured 25 authors, both adult and children, along with vendors, giveaways, and visits from popular costume characters.
“Today has been phenomenal, we’ve had so many people coming and people have been amazed with all of the different varieties of vendors we’ve had from Leaping Lizards down the way, to Forever Dads down here, the story times have been very fun, we’ve had lots of costume characters,” said Joshua McPeek, Outreach Services Manager for MCLS.
The festival also marked the launch of the library’s “Color Our World” summer reading program, which runs through July 31.
“I want to thank the community for coming out today, for all of our vendors for showing up, being excited, and everybody who has played a role in today’s big event,” said McPeek.
People can still sign up for summer reading for a chance to win prizes throughout the season by visiting the Muskingum County Library System website.
