Fatal Accident on SR 93

The Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Crooksville resident.

The crash occurred just after 6pm Wednesday and closed State Route 93 for about two hours near Roseville.

In a press release the patrol said 47-year-old Stanley Amende, of Zanesville, was driving a 2004 Ford Windstar north on 93 passing traffic when his vehicle suffered a tire blow causing him to lose control

Amende entered the right lane and re-entered the southbound lane striking a southbound vehicle at an angle on the driver’s side door.

That vehicle, a 1999 Hyundai Accent was driven by 55-year-old Crooksville resident Gene Steeves. Both vehicles then traveled off the road and into a guardrail.

Steeves was flown from the scene by Medflight to OSU Hospital in Columbus where he died of his injures. A 9-year-old passenger in Steeves vehicle was taken by Roseville EMS to Genesis Hospital with minor injuries.

A third vehicle a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 23-year-old Kyle Hittle, of Crooksville, was traveling northbound on 93 and drove off the right side of the roadway to avoid the collision striking a guardrail. He and his passenger were uninjured.

Amende received only minor injuries. Alcohol is not considered a factor in the investigation.

The crash remains under investigation.
