Fatal Crash in Fairfield County
The State Patrol believes alcohol to be a factor in a fatal crash that’s under investigation in Fairfield County.
The Lancaster Post of the State Highway Patrol said the two vehicle crash took place just after 6:30 Thursday evening on Custer’s Point Road north of State Route 204.
The patrol said 35-year-old Jason Stoll, of Newark, was traveling north on Custer’s Point in a Chevrolet Silverado which was hauling a trailer, when he pulled off the right side of the road and came to a stop, partially blocking the northbound lane.
That’s when a beige Chevrolet passenger vehicle traveling north at a high rate of speed, approached the stopped vehicle, lost control, drove off the left side of the road, struck a mailbox and two trees and caught fire before coming to rest in the roadway.
The driver of the Chevy passenger car died as a result of the crash and has not been identified.
Stoll’s vehicle wasn’t struck and didn’t sustain any damage and neither he nor his juvenile passenger were injured.
Assisting the patrol at the scene was the Thorn Township Fire Department, Perry County Coroner and the Ohio Investigative Unit.
